#NailArtNov Challenge 2014

Hello lovelies!

Here's the nail art challenge for the month of November and it's actually the Challenge's 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! I started this challenge November of 2012 and I'm so happy to see how this challenge has grown and all the amazing work that's come out of it. In celebration, I'm teaming up with one of the companies I work for called Makeup Cherimoya and they were lovely enough to sponsor this giveaway with prizes for each theme! All you have to do to participate is:

1. Complete the themes you want
2. Tag @makeupcherimoya and myself in your challenge creations
3. Be sure to be following us both on Instagram

Anyways, I know there are usually questions that arise over the themes I choose. Most are self explanatory but some are a bit confusing. So before anyone asks any questions, I'm here with the answers!

PS... I've been absent from this blog for a while but after getting a consistent full time job, I have times specified for nail art and posting so there will be a lot more on here from now on. Painting my nails, taking nice photographs, and posting pretty things to Instagram and this blog makes me happy so I'm really excited to be doing a lot more of that from now on. Thanks for doing these challenges each month!

Girly Fourth of July Nails

Happy (almost) Independence Day, my fellow American nail lovers!

For my first entry into #nailartjul, I wanted to create a design that could be worn not just on Fourth of July but every day of the year. To get this look I used a light blue and pink instead of the traditional red and navy blue.

Originally I was going to fill all the white space with thin red stripes but I stopped when I got to the middle because I really liked how it looked! I just used a thin striping brush to create a square on each nail along with the thin pink stripes. Then I dipped a small dotting tool into white polish to add "stars" into the blue squares.

WHAT I USED:
  • Alpine Snow by OPI
  • Laguna by LVX - AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER!
  • Lolli by LVX - AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER!

The Fault In Our Stars

So this much anticipated movie comes out today and although I haven't finished the book, I wanted nails to celebrate its opening day in theaters! I know this movie will become so many people's favorite movie so I chose this design for day 6 in #nailartjun.

For this look, I started out by painting my nails with a light blue and then used a brush mixed with the same light blue and then a darker blue to create the grungy look in the background. I then used a dotting tool and thin nail art brush to create the clouds, stars, infinity sign and letters.

WHAT I USED:
  • Jeanne by Julep
  • go overboard by Essie
  • Pointe Blanche by Orly
  • Black Lustre by Jessica

BASE & TOP COAT:

Happy Springtime Floral Manicure

I went to the esNAIL salon in LA last month and saw this adorable design that I just had to recreate. I figured since it's now spring it'd be the perfect time to paint these. The flowers and leaves are freehand but since it's such a loose design, it's very easy to paint. All you need are 4 colors of your choice, a thin nail art brush, and two round golden studs (one for each hand). You can use whatever colors you'd like but I chose these cause they looked bright and refreshing like pink lemonade.

To start off, paint your index and pinkie nails white, your ring and thumb nails yellow, and your middle finger pink. Use a thin brush dipped in white to loosely dab rounded areas where the flowers will be placed. Lightly dip your brush in pink and green to create the middle of the flowers and then in the green to create the leaves. You want to use light brushstrokes and dab most of the color on throughout this whole process. If you'd like, you can add little dots in between the flowers to fill in the gaps. Finish off with a fast drying top coat and quickly add the round stud to the top of your middle finger.

WHAT I USED:
  • Pointe Blanche by Orly
  • Mellow Yellow by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  • Pink by Unknown

BASE & TOP COAT:
  • Nail Envy by OPI
  • Good to Go Top Coat by Essie

TOOLS:
  • Thin Brush and Dotting Tool from eBay

Hope this mani inspires you like it inspired me! Happy springtime :)

St. Patrick's Day Manicure

Happy St. Patrick's Day! My nails are in full holiday spirit and I'm excited to share them with you. For this mani, you'll need a green, light green, white, and gold polishes. Use a decently sized dotting tool for the large clover and a smaller one to create the miniature clovers on the thumb along with the tiny dots. Use a nail art brush to fill in the gaps if there are any.

The clover is simple. Using a large dotting tool, make 3 big hearts. One for the top and two for the sides. The points should all mesh together to form the clover leaf. Use a small dotting tool or thin brush to create the stem!

Use a small dotting tool for the tiny clovers on the thumb. If you don't have one, a toothpick will work just fine! For these, dip your toothpick into white polish. Dot 3 tiny dots to make an upside down Mickey Mouse head. Now make one small stroke with your toothpick to create the stem. If you'd like, you can dip your dotting tool into the darker green polish to add dots to your clover pattern.
